EarthX
EarthX is a software startup founded on the belief that the right data can tell amazing stories.
In pursuit of this vision, EarthX set two key goals:
To create a searchable library of the world's geospatial data that everyone could access and visualize;
To build tools that would enable anyone to use this data to tell stories against the backdrop of a Google Earth-style virtual globe.
As a Product Manager at EarthX, I worked closely with a small team of designers and engineers on a product called Geostories, which were programmatic stories that combined map layers, graphics, and satellite imagery with cinematic camera movements, music, and narration.
As the lead PM, I wrote, directed, and programmed dozens of Geostories, often in collaboration with organizations like Esri, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the World Resources Institute (WRI), who partnered with us to help them tell stories with their datasets.
In addition to programming the stories themselves using GeoJSON, I also led the design and development of our Geostory Authoring Tool, a piece of software that enabled non-technical users to create Geostories using a timeline-based, drag-and-drop interface modeled after video editors like iMovie.
For my contribution, I was named as a co-inventor on a patent issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Working on something cool?
Whether you're in the middle of a project or just tinkering with an idea, feel free to drop me a line. I love to learn, design stuff, and talk shop.
