WHYY News
With a staff of more than 50 reporters, editors, and photographers, WHYY News is Greater Philadelphia's largest nonprofit newsroom and a trusted source of information for people around the Delaware Valley. As a public radio and TV station since the 1950s, WHYY has a long history of broadcasting news and entertainment to listeners and viewers across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. In recent years, however, WHYY has vastly expanded the scope and scale of its news service by creating digital products to meet the exploding demand for reliable journalism online.
As the Digital Product Manager, I work closely with the journalists in our newsroom to ensure that their stories find the largest possible audience. To achieve this goal, I frequently collaborate with newsroom leadership around content strategy planning, leveraging audience research and user analytics to help inform how we position and promote our coverage online. I often coach our journalists on digital best practices ranging from content production to audience engagement to search engine optimization (SEO).
In addition to supporting the newsroom directly, I also own the product roadmap for new feature development around our digital news service. Since Fall 2018, I have overseen several major initiatives, including:
The launch of our push notification service, which provides breaking news updates to users of the WHYY App;
The rollout of a brand new analytics dashboard, which enabled our entire newsroom to monitor trends that were previously visible only to certain stakeholders;
The implementation of Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP), a framework that has dramatically increased the speed of our mobile pages and improved our average page rank.
